Previously in our “Boilerplate Deep Dive” series, we looked at multiple levels of Joomla and Astroid integration. We covered for example assigning Astroid Templates to specific Menus Items and Tweaking Widgets within the Astroid Layout Manager. In this Tutorial we set the stage for Joomla and Astroid Article Integration. We start this chapter in our adventure in the front end, by eyeballing some of the powerful features that Astroid brings to our Site.
Switching to the Back End we first clarify what Article formatting is coming from the Joomla Core. On the one hand, a Blog Category Menu Item that is set up to display a list of Blog Articles. And on the other hand, multiple Blog Article Menu Items set up on a Blog Article by Blog Article basis. In these Menu Items we have extra Tabs with little coloured dots in front of them. These Tabs are part of the seamless integration between Joomla and Astroid. These dovetail into the Astroid Templates Options section.
For the moment, with respect to the Astroid side of the integration we are content with having a first look at “Articles Options” in a couple of different Joomla Articles. We will cover this and much more in way more detail very soon… In some ways this Tutorial serves as a bridge to future tutorial(s) where we will look in more detail at how extended Astroid functionality is applied to Blog Listings and Articles respectively.
