Previously in our "Boilerplate Deep Dive" series, we investigated some aspects of the seamless Article integration between Astroid and Joomla. Specifically, we identified broad mission-critical settings required from both Joomla and Astroid to set the stage, determining in the process the overall look and functionality of Articles on our Joomla site using the Astroid Framework.
This time around in our journey through seamlessness, we are looking in more detail at the intersection of Joomla and Astroid. Our focus is largely on individual Articles: what parts of them are run-of-the-mill Joomla features, what features are added because we have the Astroid Framework installed, and we look at some exceptions to the rule. Such as the Gallery Article where we have multiple ways of adding a Thumbnail, be that using tried and trusted Joomla methods or using Astroid Framework strategies.
We look at some examples of Article Type Icons and Badges and their differences. We also examine how Article Type Icons can change depending on the content added to the Article, such as the difference between adding a YouTube or Vimeo video to an article. Specifically, we explore how it affects the Article Type Icon for, in this case, a VideoType Article. I indulge myself slomewhat by touching on why, particularly with respect to video functionality, Astroid really does yet again rock. The relatively new Article Layout builder is a little beyond the scope of the current set of Articles but will be covered at some point in the future.
